(Jan 30) BBQ at Ruth's
It was a Friday. School finished at noon (for some, a self-imposed finish). It was hot. So we decided to brave a heat stroke/smoke inhalation and have a BBQ.
Despite the sweltering heat, it was quite an interesting afternoon. Five of us travelled from West to East, making several stops along the way.

Backseat Beauties.
We first headed to Holland-V for lunch at Thai Express, and then to my house to pick up some supplies for the BBQ. At my house, the girls were fascinated by my piano and proceeded to defile it with nefarious Westlife songs (kidding!).

"The Beauty of Backs" by Ryan How.

Queens-of-my-heart-wannabes.

Some things we brought along.
We made a quick stopover at Ryan's house to get some drinks and boardgames, and then we ventured further eastwards to Kovan for more BBQ essentials.

At a party supplies store. Left: Tiger wearing a Claire. Right: Underpaid jester.
Finally we travelled to Ruth's house, where we were greeted by her two adorable bunnies.

Left: Zao geng! (Translation: Don't look down there!). Right: The Rabbit Whisperer lecturing on how to spare a rabbit's modesty.
Yonghui and Alex joined us later, but after a half-hearted game of Taboo we realised it was too hot to do much of anything except siesta.

Wilting roses.
At five, when the heat was more manageable, we then proceeded to start the BBQ. Everyone was a self-professed BBQ expert, but really no one knew what we were doing. Only when Ruth's dad and maid intervened was when we finally got the fire going. And as with most BBQs, we burnt more than we cooked.

Fire-starters (Claire: wtf?!).

Fans.

I think we burnt everything. Still tasted good though.

In anticipation of chocolate-high.

She tongs and she pokes...

Deconstructed Smore.

Caroline makes a new friend.

Group picture!
After the embers had died down, we had a decidedly retro evening of singing tunes around the piano.
Tips for future BBQs: switch to electric to save your lungs.
